A Hidden Beauty - The Greenbergs

Thrilled to call Colts Neck home....
The Greenbergs are thrilled to call Colts Neck home after having built their dream house on 3½ glorious acres of land here. Zoë (a native of Miami, Florida) and Steve met in Florida in 1992, while Steve was there on vacation. The couple was introduced by their parents who knew each other and thought their kids just might hit it off.
By 1993 Steve and Zoë were engaged, and in 1994 they got married and moved to Tinton Falls, where they lived for 7 years. Zoë was a teacher in Manalapan until she gave birth to their twin boys in 1998; the family then moved to Marlboro into a new 4,800-square-foot home. While in Marlboro, the Greenbergs became friends with their neighbor John Kling, owner of John Kling Custom Homes. John was building a classically inspired home for his own family, and Zoë and Steve marveled at the dramatic design and details of the home’s architecture. The Greenbergsfinally came to the conclusion that building a new home designed by John Kling would be their next move. John went in search for just the right lot to present to Steve and Zoë, finding the perfect 3½ acre property in Colts Neck that at one time had been part of a working nursery. The lot included many mature specimen trees (that had been there for centuries) that gave a perfect feel – fit for the castlelike architecture of the home. The stucco and stone classic measures 13,000 square feet and includes eight bedrooms, six full baths, and two half baths. The entire construction schedule for the home ran about 10 months.
Steve and Zoë share a love for classical architecture, and they worked closely with designer Fran Tessler [of Little Silver] to help define their interior design vision. The Greenbergs appreciated Fran’s gentle approach to the design process and her willingness to listen to and guide their vision without being pushy or judgmental. The Greenbergs believe in comfort and a family-friendly approach to living, which is reflected in this home’s warm and inviting design.
Steve and Zoë Greenberg could not be happier with their new family home, as well as living in the beautiful town of Colts Neck. They are thrilled with the small town feel and the sense of community that they are so happy to be a part of.
The Greenbergs are animal lovers and enjoy the great outdoors. They have two dogs named Brutus and Zeus and two Himalayan cats named Leo and Chester, as well as a host of friendly fauna inhabiting the pond outside – including Koi, turtles, and frogs.
The gracefully suspended staircase features custom ironwork and a seductively curvaceous profile. The runner and other handmade oriental rugs were selected at CarpetYard of Freehold.
The library features beautiful woodwork and fine detailing, including coffered ceilings and fluted columns. The chandeliers throughout this elegant home make a profound design statement, and many of the light fixtures were selected from Lights on 9.
The formal dining room allows for large gatherings, but maintains an intimate atmosphere. The use of warm paint colors (Zoë said that 27 different paint colors were used throughout their home) and well-chosen accent pieces, as well as the architectural details, make this interior space very accessible and welcoming.
The billiard table is the focal point of this multi-purpose game room. The expansive arch top windows allow a lot of natural light to enter and brighten the room for hours of enjoyment and entertainment.
The formal sitting room features built-in cabinetry and an oversized sectional with plush seating. The fireplace uses stone detail and a tailored mantel design and the flat screen television blends right in with the overall décor. The carved stone turret is a unique feature of the Greenbergs’ home, and the staircase rises within its curved stone walls.
Steve’s and Zoë’s master bedroom features a vaulted ceiling with exposed beam work, as well as a spacious master bath. The travertine marble tile work and center medallion add a lot of visual interest to the master bath. The Greenbergs like to unwind after a busy day, so they’ve created their own massage room right off the master bedroom – a place in which they are able to connect body and soul.
