Avoid a sedentary life-style, adopt a positive mental attitude toward pain, and try to maintain good posture in all daily activities so as not to create extra pressure on the back. What is sciatica? Sciatica is characterized by pain in the lower back and buttocks. This pain can radiate down one or both legs into the thigh, calf, ankle, and foot. Genuine sciatica occurs when pain travels below the knee. Sciatic pain often results when the lower spine is compressed or when injury or pressure have compressed the spinal roots of the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve systems are located in the lumbar and the sacral (lower) regions of the spine. Sciatic pain or sciatica can be described as sharp, dull, burning, tingly, numb, continuous, or intermittent, and usually only affects one side of the body. It can radiate the entire length of the nerve – in some cases all the way down to the toes. Sciatica is often the result of vertebral subluxation (one or more of the bones of the spine moves out of position and creates pressure on or irritate the spinal nerves), herniated disc, bulging disc or spinal stenosis (an overgrowth of bone in the spinal canal). In extremely rare cases it can be caused by an infection or tumor. Please explain neck pain and how to avoid it. Your head and neck regions are vulnerable to many different stresses. Bad posture can cause misalignment of your neck, head, and spine; car accidents can cause whiplash; age and wear and tear can cause arthritis. Even activities such as gum chewing and reading in bed can cause pain. The following measures can be taken to avoid neck pain: maintain proper posture while sitting – keep your head up straight and rest your back on the chair; avoid sitting continuously for long periods of time – walk around as often as possible; when lifting heavy things do not bend your back – sit down with your knees bent and keep the heavy object close to your body while lifting; avoid sleeping on your stomach; when you have neck pain, avoid pillows while lying on the bed; when experiencing swell -ing or pain in the neck, apply mineral ice or heat on the neck; Relax – tension causes pressure on the neck muscles, leading to pain. What is spinal decompression therapy? If you are like so many others who suffer from chronic back pain, you have probably tried several prescribed remedies to help ease discomfort: frequent bed rest, high doses of pain medication, and perhaps even non-traditional approaches such as acupuncture – and like so many, you have come to accept the fact that you just have to learn to live with your pain. Today, you don’t have to live with back and neck pain anymore. Thanks to the concerted efforts of a team of top physicians and medical engineers, a major advancement in medical technology has been made to effectively treat neck and back pain resulting in herniated or deteriorating discs. The result of their efforts – the creation of the DRX9000™ – performs spinal decompression therapy, which not only significantly reduces back pain, but enables a majority of patients to return to living more active lifestyles. This non-surgical treatment is provided with ease and comfort while lying on your back on a padded table. You wear a harness around your chest and waist, your specific data is entered into the machine, and a strap is attached to your waist harness. The machine delicately pulls specifically, according to your disc level and weight, to provide the most accurate treatment available. This treatment begins with a series of daily sessions for two weeks, followed by treatments three times a week as needed. Each session consists of 20-25 minutes on the DRX9000™; following each session some conservative physical therapy procedures are applied to help the muscles around the vertebrae consolidate. In the later stages of treatment, which requires approximately 18 to 24 visits for about 5 to 7 weeks, the pain should be gone. The therapy sessions should begin with a specific active rehabilitation plan that targets core muscles and holding elements of the spine. The process of spinal decompression has proven to relieve pain by enlarging disc space, reducing herniation, strengthening outer ligaments to help move herniated areas back into place, and reversing high intradiscal pressures through the application of negative pressure.
