Brock Farms, with over 60 years in the business, is one of the best garden centers in the Garden State, with a wealth of materials for gardens, nurseries, and home decor. The family-run operation includes 39 acres in Freehold and 18 acres at their Colts Neck location. Each site carries lawn and garden supplies, pottery, and many types of mulches and stone. In addition, Freehold boasts a tremendous variety of nursery stock and a gift shop, while Colts Neck has more statuary and a huge assortment of pond supplies. Colts Neck also has a petting zoo and pony rides on weekends during the Halloween season–a great treat for the kids. Both sites offer a wide selection of greenhouse flowers, especially during the spring and summer.
The operation is, naturally, seasonally driven. Halloween excitement abounds with pumpkins (including pick-your-own), hayrides, cornstalks, mums, Indian corn, party shops with decorations, and tons of costumes, both unique and standard. There are also two very different haunted houses (one in each location), for which there is a nominal charge. The Christmas season is particularly resplendent in Freehold, where there are 25,000 square feet of indoor displays. According to Ed Brock, Jr., one of the genial owners, they have “anything you can possibly think of.” His mother personally decorates over 100 of the trees on display. –By Rich Fireman
