CareOne at King James provides rehabilitation and nursing care for residents who have specific clinical needs. The services that are available to the residents at CareOne include clinical programs specific to the needs of the residents after leaving the hospital, as well as LTC, respite care and sub-acute rehabilitation through its Next Step Home program.

The Next Step Home program involves the resident, family and support system in the plan of care, with the goal of making the transition home safely.

“We focus on continuing education to teach our staff how to care for residents with dementia,” says Cannon. CareOne’s staff implemented a Dementia Capable Care program to meet the needs of their residents with dementia.

“We work hard to put our residents and their families at ease. Our nursing staff is very dedicated, we have a lot of clinical capabilities here. The clinical team includes registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified nursing aids, and a social worker. Our goal is
to provide excellence in care so our residents’ families can sleep at night knowing their loved ones are in good hands.”

When physicians come to CareOne, they immediately comment on its warm, comfortable atmosphere. “A lot of it comes from how we treat residents,” says Cannon. “We treat them like our own family.” Residents live in clean, brightly-lit rooms and socialize in spacious common areas. “The staff has a lot to do with the feeling of comfort you have when you walk through the door. We have a wonderful activities staff and dining services staff. They’re all so engaging with residents and their families.”

Nutritious meals are served in the center’s comfortable dining room, and a variety of activities for individuals with differing cognitive ability levels are offered throughout the day, into the evening and during the weekends. CareOne is constantly challenging itself
to serve its residents better.

Residents and their family members are surveyed about the quality of services and customer service at CareOne. “We’re always striving to fit residents’ needs,” says Cannon.

CareOne’s home-like atmosphere is felt by its staff as well as its residents. Many members of the staff have been with CareOne for a decade or longer. Some have been there for more than 30 years. “Everybody knows us here,” says Cannon. “We’re part of the community.”
