What might a patient feel stands out about your practice that would make them recommend you to family or friends?
Since a majority of our patients do come from family and friend referrals, I feel I am in a good position to answer this question. Basically, I hold extremely high standards in regard to patient care and I am known for my thoroughness and attention to detail. I personally evaluate and treat every patient in the practice. I believe that it is important to spend time with each patient. Specifically, I give an explanation of their condition, the treatment options available, and the realistic expectations of treatment. In addition, my staff has been trained to treat each patient as if they were a family member. I constantly receive compliments from patients regarding my friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff.
How do you stay current with new advances in your field?
I subscribe to many journals related to the field of dermatology. I am an advocate of seeking the most current information available to help my patients. I also attend several dermatology conferences throughout the year. I especially enjoy the conferences that present live patient cases since I feel this is an excellent way of keeping my diagnostic skills sharp.
How has your profession changed over the last decade?
Over the past decade an emerging trend in dermatology has its origins in the restraints that the insurance industry has placed on physicians. Because of decreasing reimbursement and increasing restrictions on patient care, many dermatology practices have been forced to see a higher volume of patients. Many dermatology practices have hired non- physician health care providers in order to handle this increasing patient volume. Although many of these paraprofessionals are quite competent, I pride myself on the fact that I have actually decreased patient volume over the years in order to spend more time with each patient. I am also very fortunate that I am still a solo practitioner. When a patient comes to my office, they will only be diagnosed and treated by me, a board certified dermatologist.
