Practice Overview:
Individual care for people with musculoskeletal injuries, post surgery or patients trying to return to a prior level of function. My practice is an entry point for people with pain or who have sustained an injury, when seeing a physician first is often not necessary. There are no aides or assistants utilized in my practice, so you spend your entire treatment time with the practice owner and clinician.
How does your facility/practice stay current with new advances in your field?
I attend numerous advanced continuing education courses and subscribe to several orthopedic and manual therapy journals. This means I am utilizing the best evidence-based practice techniques to speed up your recovery and prevent reoccurrence. In addition, I am the President of the NJ Society of Independent Physical Therapists, a member of the NJ State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners, and a Sports Medicine consultant for Brookdale Community College.
What might a patient feel stands out about your practice that would make them recommend you to family or friends?
Practitioner is involved in your recovery to ensure continuity and comprehensive care. This is combined with the use of evidenced-based techniques to make sure your recovery occurs as fast as possible, thereby preserving precious healthcare dollars.
What was the motivating factor for the launch of your practice?
I was a partner in a multi-office practice for 15 years that utilized licensed assistants and unlicensed aides. Often, people were frustrated from seeing different practitioners. I was unable to change the culture of the practice and felt it was time to deliver truly one-on-one continuous care to each and every patient.
What would a referral say about your practice?
They would say, I had an outstanding experience in this physical therapy practice, and I would recommend Dr. Bertone to anyone that requires treatment for pain or injury due to difficulty performing daily tasks.
Are there any specials/information/articles you post on Facebook, Twitter or on your site?
Yes, I use a Facebook page at db Orthopedic Physical Therapy and a Twitter account @dborthopt to keep people informed of the latest in rehabilitation news. People can also visit my website at www.dborthopt.com where I have posted valuable content such as videos and published articles. I also provide practice information via a monthly newsletter which people can sign up for on my homepage.
Are there new programs your practice is offering to help patients hurt by the economy?
For those patients who finish a rehabilitation program but are not ready for an unsupervised fitness program, we offer the latest GRAVITY group fitness and personal training right on-site at our facility. This program is run by personal trainer and GRAVITY director Nicole Sanchez.
What other areas are your “specialties?”
I recently introduced a Concussion Management and Baseline testing program to help area athletes and their physicians in making smart return to play determinations. This program has been successfully implemented by the Brookdale Community College athletic department and several area recreational and travel leagues. I also work with area golfers to improve their swing mechanics and performance through a combination of swing analysis and treatment of musculoskeletal restrictions. This program has proven to reduce symptoms for golfers who complain of pain while playing or are looking to hit the ball farther. Golf performance enhancement is much more effective than wasting money on expensive equipment that never lowers scores or prevents injury.
