Crayola

Bust out the crayons, markers, and coloring books and get creative with Crayola at the original Crayola Factory in Two Rivers Landing, PA.  The Crayola Factory is a color haven of discovery that enable both children and adults to use their imaginations and get accustomed with the variety of colors that the Factory has skillfully created.  In fact upon visiting the Factory it seems as if a personal development experience takes place.  This development process includes being introduced to the Binney & Smith's Crayola brand, products, and history and the Factory's significance in arts education.  The Crayola Factory is a fairly new addition to the coloring world.  Binney and Smith's is the original manufacturer of Crayola crayons, whose beginning dates back to 1903.  Actually the first box of crayons was sold for a nickel, which included only eight Crayola crayons, with such colors as black, brown, blue, red, purple, orange, yellow, and green.  Since the birth of a new creative space aptly known as the Crayola Factory, starting in 1996, the Factory has attracted over 2.5 million visitors, while the town boasts of only less than 30,000 people.  Visitors as far away as South Africa have come there; quite an outstanding impression this Factory has made on the world.  The staff and members of the Factory have said that the reason for the overwhelming amount of visitors who come from near and far is that all who have come have one thing in common- a desire to unleash a creative spirit and reminisce about the Crayola products they used as kids.  In early 2003, when it celebrated its 100th anniversary, the Crayola Factory underwent a $1.5 million redesign, creating the additions of two animation stations, a manufacturing theater, and new exhibits to give visitors an improved experience.  Since its refurbishing and renovation visitors can thoroughly enjoy the tour, drawing, and coloring experience with the latest Crayola products.  And the best part about the Factory is that the visitor is not burdened with the task of cleaning up afterwards!  The Factory is constantly thinking up unique themes to fit with the specific activity that is planned for each month every year.  The theme at the Factory for November and December is Gingerbread.  Other themes include: Art Safari in February; Dragons, Castles and Knights in October; Earth, Sea, and Sky in September; Dreams You Can Count On in July and August; Flower Power in May; Tales To Tell in June; Weaving What We Are in April; and Birds Of A Feather in March.  Some of the activities exhibited at Crayola, depending on the month of your visit, are fabric design, spin art, storytelling, valentines, and summer activities.  The Crayola Factory is a big fan of teachers and mentors everywhere.  In fact, they have a teacher appreciation week in the mid-months of the year.  Visitors experience imaginative and fun projects planned around these themes that inspire personal creative development.  The above-listed themes are demonstrated and used in lesson plan format, which can be presented to various grade levels and incorporated into the classroom curriculum.  The lesson plans focus on celebrations and encourage imagination and creativity.
