Easy Living On A Grand Scale - Alyson and Keith Arnott

Alyson and Keith Arnott are enjoying the fruits of life
Alyson and Keith Arnott met while attending college at Fairleigh Dickinson University in North Jersey. Keith was an economics major and Alyson was studying nursing. Alyson ended up completing her nursing studies in Boston and Keith began working in New York City for Paine Webber upon his graduation. Alyson grew up in Matawan, returned to her Jersey roots after graduating from nursing school and started working at Riverview Hospital in Red Bank. Keith and Alyson really never lost the connection they had made in college and were married in 1985.The newlyweds purchased their first new home in Old Bridge that same year and lived in the small house for the next seven years, with an eye toward up-sizing when the time was right. They were familiar and in love with Colts Neck and looked for just the right property to purchase for their growing family. In 1992 they found the perfect place to call home in a new custom construction, two story brick colonial with a beautiful location, backing up to a former horse farm that is now protected farmland. The 1 ˝ acre lot was set at the end of a newly developed custom built sub division and allowed for abundant privacy. The majestic, well-crafted home took 1˝ years to complete and the Arnott family moved in with children in tow.
The family has now grown to include Taylor, 23, Michael, 22, and twins Morgan and Christopher, age 17. The Arnotts’ nearly 20 year stay in Colts Neck has been a joy. They are an active family and have enjoyed all the great country living that Colts Neck is so famous for. The Arnott children all participated in sports while growing up, including travel basketball and track among others.
Alyson loves the privacy her home’s backyard affords and couldn’t be happier with the fireplace, deck and pool they installed three years after moving into their dream home. She does lament a bit about how the “town has grown up” over the past 20 years, but is more than satisfied with the great memories she and her family have made and continue to make in this special town they call home.

The backyard of the Arnott home is more like a multi-functional extension of the main house than just a backyard. Whimsical ceramics and magnificent plantings, maintained and planted by Alyson, create a lush naturalistic setting for any gathering or private get together. The outside stone hearth was a real trendsetter 17 years ago, when the Arnotts had it designed and installed.

Comfort and warmth defines Alyson’s approach to interior design throughout her family’s home. Warm earth tones complement the walls and upholstered, over-sized furniture, arranged in a conversational layout, create an inviting atmosphere in the family room.

The sun room is a natural extension of the main house. This multi-purpose comfort zone is transformed during the holidays into a wonderland environment. Tables finish the space and holiday meals are served to family and guests with great views of the Arnotts’ magical backyard just beyond.

With four children, the importance of the home’s kitchen cannot be overstated.Alyson loves her old-style, professional Viking stove and has made great use of it over the years. She loves the FoodNetwork and has incorporated many new ideas into her own culinary efforts. Alyson has shared her love of cooking with her children and is proud to say they all can put together a tasty meal at the drop of a spatula. Keith, not to be outdone, holds court at the multi-burner, stainless grill in the backyard and makes delicious meals with chicken, T-bone steak and fish. Keith loves to fish and the family owns a beach house and boat in Mantoloking. If the fish are biting then fresh fish on the grill is the special of the day. Six years ago some elements of the home were updated, including a large granite topped center island with plenty of seating for the children, and a wet bar between the kitchen and the family room.

The Arnott master bedroom is cozy and luxurious at the same time. The four poster bed, a classic touch of elegance, takes center stage and affords plenty of comfort. The built-in shelving unit also incorporates a romantic and useful gas fired fireplace and a hide away, television. One of the Arnotts’ daughter’s bedrooms also exhibits great attention to detail and clever use of built-ins to create storage space and architectural detail at the same time.
Special window treatments by Monmouth Beach Plantation Shutters and Blinds are beautiful to look at and provide great control of light and air. The recently renovated bath features a great sunken tub and walk in shower in addition to a double sink vanity and petite crystal chandelier.
