Choosing a Plastic Surgeon

The field of plastic surgery has its early roots in reconstructive surgery including the management of trauma, cancer, burns, breast reconstruction, and birth defects. This surgical subspecialty requires long and vigorous training in all areas of reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. In an era  where physicians are struggling with falling reimbursements and managed care, we have seen a flood of new “cosmetic” and “aesthetic” doctors emerge across the country. Many of these practitioners have little or no training in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Glicksman is a board-certified plastic surgeon in practice for over 18 years and despite the large size of her practice, she continues to remain true to her commitment to improve the health, well-being, and safety of her patients.

Dr. Glicksman is one of the few surgeons in the United States with extensive training and experience with the newest form stable cohesive gel implants, also known as the “Gummy Bear”. She is the only plastic surgeon in New Jersey who has had access to these implants since 2005. Dr. Glicksman  is also one of only 10 plastic surgeons in the United States and Canada presently on the Executive Council of Allergan, a leading innovator in breast aesthetics and research. She lectures throughout the United States teaching other plastic surgeons, and has authored numerous published papers on  breast augmentation. Her recent published works include a chapter on the management of breast implant complications. There are only a handful of plastic surgeons with her experience who can correct breast augmentation complications, most often caused by the failure to educate women  about their options, as well as poor surgery. She has also completed another chapter on patient education in breast augmentation.

If you are considering plastic surgery, even a non-surgical rejuvenation procedure, choose your physician responsibly. Always check to see if the physician is board-certified...then ask WHAT board? Be sure to ask if he or she is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Check to see if your plastic surgeon:

• has completed at least six years of surgical training with a minimum of three years in plastic surgery.

• is fully trained and experienced in all areas of plastic surgery, including cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the breast, body, and face.

• has hospital privileges to perform the same procedures, and operates in only accredited medical facilities.

(AAAASF, AAAHC or Medicare).

• adheres to a strict code of ethics.
