Home Again: The Aninowskys’

The Aninowskys’ Sprawling Country Estate Reflects the Comforts of Home

David and Lynare Aninowsky moved into their 15,000-square-foot Colts Neck country estate, situated on 4.2 acres of pristine land, in 2007. They own a home in Las Vegas that, over the previous couple of years, Lynare had enjoyed decorating and making into their own little desert oasis. She brought that experience and a strong sense of style to this much larger design challenge.

Lynare (originally from Sayreville) and David (from Matawan) had lived in Holmdel for a time, but were looking for a property with privacy and grandeur on which to build their dream home. They found their Colts Neck property while on a trip back from their Las Vegas home, and responded to the family-friendly character of the town and its rolling fields. The house they found was a builder’s custom-spec home that had been completed  (to a large degree) on the outside but had not yet been finished on the inside. The timing could not have been better, allowing Lynare and David to trim out the interior and truly make it their own. They began to “put their stamp on” this classically inspired home almost immediately.

David and Lynare come from the “hi-tech” world, and David made sure his home was tech-ready in every way possible. The installed systems can be controlled online or from various remote locations throughout the house. The state-of-the-art electronic-control four system regulates temperature, lighting, video, and sound elements, as well as security systems throughout the house. The challenge of decorating and transforming their newly constructed house into a home was left to Lynare’s capable and talented hands.

The Aninowsky home has a classic country estate appeal. The stone walls and copper roof accents, along with the slate-look roof, create a sense of timelessness. The lagoon style pool is just now nearing completion, and is one of the last large design elements to become an integral part of the exterior, along with the outdoor kitchen and grill installation. The pool and stone surround were designed and installed by East Coast Pool Concepts. It includes multiple water fall features, a slide built into a stone wall, a beach sand entrance, and a circular, integrated, built-in hot tub area large enough for lounging with friends and family.

The dramatic center-suspended staircase is opulent and grand, softened by a plush stair runner that adds pattern and color to this home’s palatial formal entry. Lynare has been decorating nonstop since the completion of the construction phase. The scale of the interior spaces were challenging, so the Aninowskys took a trip to North Carolina to, as Lynare says, “see the furnishings, touch them, and feel the fabric” options, rather than choosing from catalogs. She found just the right scale for their spacious rooms with Marge Carson and Habersham furniture, and describes her design approach to the furnishings as “modern-traditional,” with a strong accent on comfort.

The kitchen features multiple counter-top materials and cabinet finishes, such as a beautifully finished butcher-block top on the center island and granite with a triple bullnose OG edge.A full complement of professional appliances completes the kitchen design, including a large Wolf stove on which Lynare can prepare a huge Italian meal for friends or family. The lighting fixtures and pendants supply much-needed task lighting, and provide quite an elegant look. The living room, with its beamed ceiling, rich leather-topped furniture, and custom upholstered pillows, foot stools, and custom drapes, creates a real sense of intimacy. The ceiling has a rich red glaze treatment that seems to pull the red accents from the pattern fabrics of the pillows and accent pieces. The two-tone monochromatic pattern on the walls adds further decorative interest.

The master bath has a spa-like feel, which Lynare used as a design focus for this most intimate of spaces.A variety of materials were used to finish the master bath, including white limestone, mocha glass tile, and several paint processes, such as antiquing and glazing, to create a lived-in and cozy atmosphere. The oversized walk-in shower has multiple heads with rainmassage features and custom-temperature settings. The suspended chandelier and crown moulding applied to the tray ceiling help define the space and add a formal touch to this streamlined design approach.

TheAninowskys’ master bedroom is elegant and comfortable, featuring a suite layout with sitting room and master bath. The soft and restful beiges contrast nicely with the brown stripes in the fabric. The tray ceiling features detailed crown moulding and recessed lighting, and the sitting room has a working gas fireplace and dual lounging sofas for curling up with a good book.
