It’s been fifteen years since Daniel Coneeny purchased a dilapidated 14-acre egg farm in Lincroft and, “with little more than a cash box and about 500 mums,” turned it into what today is Colonial Nursery, a full service Retail Garden and Landscape Design and Installation Center. “We grow all our own annuals and perennials right here in Lincroft – you can’t get more local than that,” Dan says with pride. Indeed, a visit to Colonial Nursery is an excursion into a horticultural paradise, starting with the impressive 12,000 square foot greenhouse, a huge panorama of outdoor plant displays and their latest addition, a pondscape.
The Garden Center at Colonial offers a wide variety of annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees, along with fertilizer, mulch, and other plant care products. Find veggie seedlings, garden tools and ornaments, containers, and all the materials necessary to maintain the health and beauty of your garden and overall landscape. The full-service landscape design division provides complete assistance for your project, large or small, including but not limited to plantings, patios, walkways, ponds, outdoor kitchens, fire pits, pergolas, lighting, and irrigation. “We represent a full circle in my industry,” Dan explains. “You can have us do it all for you, or come in and do it yourself, or anything in between,” he says. They even offer a potting service, and can create a whole “potted garden” for you. “Above all,” Dan adds, “we provide service and quality, all at a very competitive price.” In addition, Customer Card holders can realize big savings with the colonial Cash Rewards Program and other special offers.
Dan confides that “I’m always building this place. It’s never finished.” Besides continually expanding their nursery and design business to better serve their customers, Colonial has also introduced educational classes and seminars conducted by Pegi Ballister, author of New Jersey Gardener’s Guide. For a schedule, check the website. In addition to classes, Colonial also often offers demos and other events.
