“Dance is not a preparation for life...Dance is life itself,” according to Dance Attitudes co-owner and director Shari Devora, who along with co-owner and director Paige Sayegh have been operating the studio since 1994. The duo have been  friends and dancing together since they were six years old growing upi n Brooklyn. “We always say, ‘Dance is where you make your lifelong friends,’” Shari adds.

This is one of the reasons Dance Attitudes sees its students and teachers as one big family. Some of the teachers that learned to dance at the studio are now instructing new students. Shari and Paige love knowing everyone on a first name  basis; their students love being able to dance in the 10,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility with six dance rooms. Parents can watch the children dancing on the closed circuit televisions which adorn the spacious lobby. There is even a  dancewear store on-site for all of their students’ dancing needs.

Children as young as 2 1/2 can come to Dance Attitudes to began learning about the discipline. As the kids get older they can enjoy ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, pointe, acrobatics and hip hop. There are also some newer classes, including boys  hiphop and drama. Three levels of dancers can be accommodated: recreational, for the dancer who wants to have fun as an extra curricular activity and keep fit; level I team, for the dancer who is interested in more but is satisfied with two  days a week; and level II team, a strict four-day a week program for the dancer who is serious about dance and interested in being competitive.

And what can people expect when they work with Dance Attitudes? “Owners that care, learn from their mistakes, and have your child’s best interest at heart,” says Shari. “Working with children can be difficult, because it includes entire  families. So we try our very best to be honest, fair, and loving. It is our pleasure to have an open door policy with the parents so that this is not just about dance, but constant life lessons.”
