Our Pick: Edge Sports Academy and Health Club
03/05/2009 - By Chad Safran
Edge Sports Academy and Health Club
749 Hope Road, Suite D
Eatontown, NJ 07724
www.edgesahc.com
The Edge is not a typical workout location. The indoor 30,000-square-foot complex is split between the health club and the sports academy, offering anyone from the ages of 6 to 96 an opportunity to keep fit. The health club offers more than three dozen cardio machines, each equipped with its own plasma TV.
All health club members receive two complementary personal training/evaluation sessions from one of the 12 certified staff personal trainers when signing up. In addition to its machines and free weights, the Edge also offers yoga, spin, and boxing classes, along with the well-known Les Mills Body Training Systems and Free-Style Classes.
The sports academy features speed, strength, and conditioning from Joe McAullife, a former bench press world champion. With his PowerEDGE steroid free system, Joe has trained numerous successful high school and college athletes, including football All-Americans Knowshon Moreno and Donald Brown. The academy houses a 4,000- square-foot athletic turf field, several batting cages, pitching machines, strength training machines, and a speed track.
If all the exercise proves a bit too hard on the muscles, the Edge’s physical therapist, Sharon Wentworth, is on staff to help get rid of those aches and pains. If you just need some refreshment and relaxation after a workout, you can watch one of three large, flat-screen TVs while sitting in the cafe and enjoying the food created by registered dietitian Diane Hendricks.
“We are a unique facility,” says owner Fran Golden. “Any individual, at any level, can enhance their physical and mental wellness.”
he Edge also stays very involved in the Eatontown area; 3 days each week physically challenged kids come in to play on the athletic turf, and every month a community project, such as food drives and toy donations, occur.
With no contract or initiation fees, The Edge is perfect for anyone who wants to improve their mental attitude, physical strength, and appearance in a great, modern environment.
