Hazlet Pharmacy, The Perfect Gift
2874 Highway 35 South
Hazlet, NJ 07730

In the 50-plus years since it was the first pharmacy in town, when founder Anthony Jackapino would spend summer days in a lounge chair in the parking lot waiting for a car to go past on Bethany Road, Hazlet Pharmacy has grown from an 1,800 square foot storefront to a 6,500 square foot modern location on Route 35. It features not only the everyday necessities but one of the area’s largest gift departments and a full line of medical equipment and supplies for sale and rental.
Teresa Tollevsen, the store’s owner/manager and Anthony’s daughter, knows that generations of families have been coming to the store and makes sure that they are all treated like family. “We have a very knowledgeable staff that can answer all of your medical questions’” says Teresa. “Many of our customers feel more comfortable asking our pharmacists questions than asking their own doctor.”
It’s customer service that has helped Hazlet Pharmacy stay successful for so long. They bill Medicare and accept all major insurance companies. They offer free delivery. With a gift shop that stocks Vera Bradley, Lenox China, Yankee Candles, Crabtree and Evelyn, Willow Tree Angels and much more, Teresa and her staff always try and help customers find what they are looking for. However, if it’s not in stock, they order it, and if they can’t get it, they find a store that has it.
“We really go out of our way for our customers, and they do seem to notice because that is why they all say they come back,” says Teresa. “So many times we hear people say, ‘I love to shop here, because I can find everything I need, and you are always so nice and friendly here.’”
Several members of the great staff at Hazlet Pharmacy have been with the store for over 10 years, including Teresa’s brother, Jerry Jackapino. He continues his father’s tradition of caring, always lending an ear to people especially when they have been diagnosed with some terrible illness or have had problems with their medications. He offers the best advice possible. Says Teresa, “This is what grew my father’s business many years ago and what has kept us growing into the future.”
