At Monmouth County School of Rock in Marlboro, your children will learn much more than  how to read a music sheet and play a few chords. MCSR is dedicated to educating their  students in critical life skills through a highly-effective musical instruction program. “We use the  musical platform to get our kids together, and let them learn how to be part of a team through teaching them to play in groups. Letting the children build cohesion and learn how to play off of  each other teaches them vital life skills too,” owner Michael Basile says.

MCSR employs a different approach to teaching music. Instead of focusing on theory first,  Basile’s program encourages its students to learn how to play by letting them perform songs, and then teaching the theory later. “Once students master a song, they can apply the theory  behind what they’ve done, and then apply it to music. If kids are passionate about learning music, the key is to hold their attention by getting them excited about coming to a weekly  session and playing,” Basile says. “In our performance program, we start with private one-on- one sessions, then organize the students into bands based on their skill level and tell them in 12  weeks they’ll be playing on a live stage such as the Stone Pony. It’s a great motivational tool  and makes the kids eager to learn how to play music.”

MCSR prides itself on being an active part of the Marlboro community by performing live  shows organized for benefits at local area venues where their students can play. Offering a  constructive after-school program is their number one goal. “Whether it’s our Rock 101,  Performance, or other programs, we create a culture for our kids to have fun, while they are  and aren’t playing during their lessons,” Basile says.

MCSR offers programs for children of all skill levels, for guitar, bass, vocals, keyboards and  drums. If a fun, innovative and interactive approach to learning music from real working and  touring musicians interests you, contact MCSR to schedule a free 45 minute trial lesson, and let  the jam sessions begin!
