If you think the sport of polo is all about Prince William knocking around a ball with a mallet while riding on a horse, you are mistaken. Because of the Polo Club of Colts Neck, the sport is much closer to home than you think.Polo Club of Colts Neck was established in2009 in order to share the excitement of polo and to enhance the lifestyle that surrounds the sport throughout Monmouth County. Being granted a 501(C)(3) certification from the Township of Colts Neck, non-profits are encouraged to make Polo Club of Colts Neck a resource for fundraising and annual events. It is the true convergence of sport and the importance of community.
The club is home to SLS JETS Polo team, which is led and made up of Simon Garber and his three sons. The team embraces the active lifestyle associated with the sport, and want to spread that joy to the public. "My family and I wish to share our love of polo with you. It is our passion in life," says Simon, whose team makes the club their training center and home for the summer season. This summer over 12 games are scheduled to be played at Bucks Mill Park inCol ts Neck and each is sure to be one of the highlights of the season.
Polo is not just a spectator sport; fans get involved with the game. Halftime provides a good chance to get acquainted with fellow spectators, participate in divot stomping (the only sport where spectators are invited to actually enter the playing field) and help out players and ponies. It's also a good opportunity to walk about, socialize, enjoy live entertainment, and take pictures.
Polo is also one big family, which is why spectators are always invited to the post-match trophy presentation. It's a terrific way to get a true sense of sportsmanship, make the most of photo opportunities, obtain autographs, and mingle with your favorite player. Few sports offer this sense of camaraderie and class. The Polo Club of Colts Neck is definitely looking forward to seeing you at a future polo match during the 2010 summer season.
