Fusion cuisine is the concept of merging flavors and spices from two unique regions of a country or areas of the world in order to make original food that tantalizes the senses. There is no better location to try this type of dining than at Teak Restaurant, where General Manager Peter Yim and his staff offer items using influences from Latin America, France, Thailand, and Japan to create a unique experience.
“No one else in our area has our type of food, ingredients, decor, and atmosphere,” says Peter, who has been leading Teak for over three years. “Each dish represents the different flavors of the world combined into one.”
One of the great characteristics about Teak, which has been open for six years, is that it gives guests an opportunity to try something new. “You would probably end up having different foods that you would normally never have. Our food is very different,” says Peter. “Our job is to teach guests the different types of foods. In the end, they all love it.”
Highlights on the menu include braised short ribs, which are slow cooked for four hours, the forbidden black roll, featuring sweet whole grain black rice, tuna, jalapeno, scallion, and a spicy sauce, and scallion crusted halibut.
Teak is more than just a great restaurant. The bar, which is open until2 a.m. every night, is a perfect place to have a drink and relax after enjoying a performance at a nearby Red Bank theater. Guests find Teak to be a terrific location for an intimate cocktail, such as a Mangotini or a Mojito, or a glass of wine from the extensive wine list. And if you prefer to come earlier in the day, Teak offers 1/2 off all drinks in the bar during its happy hour, Monday-Friday from 3-7 p.m.
Teak’s private dining room is available for weddings, birthdays, corporate affairs and more. The restaurant also offers deluxe catering packages for off-premise events.
Peter sums up Teak perfectly when he says, “If you want to be adventurous with everyday ingredients, we are the place to be.”
Teak is open seven days a week, serving lunch on Monday-Friday from 12-3 p.m., and offering dinner on Sunday-Thursday from 5-10 p.m. and Friday-Saturday from 5-11 p.m.
