JoAnn Abraham knows how to make people feel better and more comfortable, but she’s not a doctor, and you don’t need an appointment to see her. As owner of The Back Relief and Comfort Store for the past 5 years, she has been able to help her customers find solutions to their physical comfort issues. With shoes, furniture, beds, pillows, and back supports, her store has provided relief to customers with a variety of pain problems.
The Back Relief and Comfort Store carries many shoes from all over the world, including wellknown brands such as Birkenstock, Dansko, and Brooks. The store also carries a wide range of shoes and socks appropriate for people with diabetes. All the footwear shares one purpose: to help people walk comfortably. Every staff member is skilled in fitting shoes, making sure to measure both feet and, when necessary, analyzing pressure points. George Richards, a certified pedorthist, is on staff to make custom orthotics. He is trained in the anatomy, pathologies, and foot structure.
In addition to shoes, there is an inventory of ergonomic furniture, including: task chairs that offer at least three adjustment options; kneeling chairs; and a line of recliners. Those who need help getting up will find a selection of lift chairs as well. Customers looking for a bed with pressure reduction and comfort can check out the selection of Tempur-Pedic® and Electropedic® beds, neither of which has any springs.
Many of The Back Relief and Comfort Store’s customers are referred there by area podiatrists, orthopedists, chiropractors, and physical therapists. Several area professionals are also customers, which JoAnn considers the highest compliment.
According to JoAnn, whose philosophy on how to be successful stresses customer service, customers continue to come back to The Back Relief and Comfort Store for one simple reason. “We are unique. There are no similar stores,” she says. “The question we get most often is, ‘Do you have another store closer to where I live?’ Our answer is, ‘Not yet.’”
