Dr. Snehal Patel had one goal in mind when he and his wife, Bhavini, opened The Wellness Center Pharmacy and Surgical in Old Bridge two years ago. “I wanted to redefine ‘wellness.’ I’ve traveled the world and seen how effective proactive practices are at keeping your body well. We shouldn’t just treat people with medications; they should just be one way to enhance how your body operates,” Patel, who holds a Doctorate in Pharmacy from LIU says. To do that, he notes, you need to combine nutritional supplements along with customized, “compounded” medications.

“We are an atypical pharmacy. We’re a combination of a health food store and an apothecary. We stock a plentiful amount of nutritional supplements that we encourage our customers to take. But the most important aspect about us is our compounding pharmacy,” Patel says. He considers compounding a ‘lost art’ of the pharmaceutical world. “Right now, most pharmacies are bottling hundreds of prescriptions a day and don’t take the time to customize most of their medications for their patients. Here, we use our advanced knowledge of medicine to create unique medications that only treat our patients’ needs.”

In the compounding process, the team at The Wellness Center blends FDA-approved medicines to individually tailor each prescription for their patients. “We take a vested interest in our patients’ health and comfort. We can easily blend our medicine and turn them into ice pops, or chocolate-flavored drinks, to make them easier to take for children or adults. But most importantly, we use the FDA-approved substances outside of the box. While some medications will treat your symptoms, other ingredients in them can give you adverse side effects. We try to eliminate that here by administering only what the patient specifically needs to get better,” Patel says.

If educating yourself on what nutritional supplements and custom-tailored medication would be best for you, contact The Wellness Center Pharmacy and Surgical and re-define what wellness means to you.
