ENTRENCHED IN THE COMMUNITY
The town of Colts Neck is fortunate to have an active and dedicated resident like Glen Dalakian in its midst. Glen has lived in town for 12 years.
When asked why he chose to make Colts Neck home, Glen shared that he was originally from Northern New Jersey and wanted to live in a more rural environment with his wife and kids. They found Colts Neck, which he describes as a bit of heaven on earth.
Glen obviously has decided to further enrich this piece of heaven by getting involved in numerous organizations in town. He is presently the President of the Colts Neck Business Association (CNBA). Colts Neck High School’s DECA Club, the Colts Neck Community Church, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Ashley Lauren Foundation are some of the other organizations in which he is active.
Service to the community seems to be a family affair. Glen’s wife Cyndi is on the Colts Neck First-Aid Squad; his sons, Glen and Lucas, have been involved in clubs at the high school, and have worked at businesses in town as well as the town’s recreation summer camp.
Glen not only lives in Colts Neck but has also decided to headquarter his business in town. His company is CSAV Systems, which provides professional sound, video, and teleconferencing systems for corporations, malls, retail stores, churches, temples, hotels, restaurants, schools, and other commercial and industrial facilities.
As a business owner and resident, Glen’s involvement with the CNBA began 2 years ago, when he was invited to join. He (along with the other members) is concerned about maintaining the integrity of the community.
The group held its first meeting in October of 2007. It started with a group of concerned residents; many were retired business owners who felt the businesses in town were not well represented. They wanted to bring the right type of businesses to Colts Neck, so they reached out to other members of the community (Glen included) to start an organization.
The group boasted an unprecedented 170 members in its first year. The organization is open to anyone and represents a wide mix of people; there are residents, business owners,
retirees, as well as people who fall into multiple categories.
The CNBA has created the very successful Olde Towne Colts Neck event. This event highlights the business district in Colts Neck. It is a family-festive affair. According to Glen, the event brought together a myriad of organizations including the town council, the police department, fire and first-aid squads, the high school, and churches, as well as the major charities in town and, of course, the businesses. He said, “It was wonderful to see every aspect of the town meshed together in a positive way.”
The event is scheduled again for this year on Saturday, June 6, and is set to again be a town-wide festival that will connect the shopping hubs in town. There will be ample parking, and a shuttle will be available to transport patrons to the various locales. Live music will be on tap and there will be a parade. Other events, such as a classic car
show, police and fire department demonstrations, and a blood drive, are again slated. In addition, all CNBA members are invited to have a display. Funds raised will be distributed to area charities, such as the Ashley Lauren Foundation (to benefit children with cancer) and Someone Special Needs You (which assists children with autism), and the Lions Club. Besides Olde Towne Colts Neck, the CNBA is planning a barn and winery tour.*
Glen’s involvement with his church, his family, and the long hours he volunteers to serve his community is his way of showing his appreciation of living in such an incredible
place.
