Pretty as a Picture

The Gaglianos’ spacious dining room is a perfect example of Ann Marie’s eclectic decorating style. Pine antiques sit comfortably alongside more formal dining chairs, with splashes and strokes of color throughout.

The move from Westfield, New Jersey to Holmdel was a much anticipated one for the Gagliano family. With family members in the area and a love for Monmouth County, Holmdel became the place of choice when it came to the inevitable house search.

The move from Westfield, New Jersey to Holmdel was a much anticipated one for the Gagliano family. With family members in the area and a love for Monmouth County, Holmdel became the place of choice when it came to the inevitable house search.
Frank, an avid golfer and chess enthusiast, and Ann Marie, a trained
professional painter and mother of two, found their house project at the end of a picturesque cul-de-sac, backing to a wooded area of mature trees.
Purchased in 1998, the Gaglianos knew that a renovation was not far behind. Ann Marie says, with a smile, that the white tile floors and pink
countertops were just not going to be part of her color palette. She took the lead when it came to the renovating and decorating of the newly purchased family home. She always approaches her projects with an “artistic eye” and “vision,” just as she would a painting or drawing.
The 4,100-square-foot home became a magnificent canvas on which to
create. When asked if Frank shared her artistic vision for their family home, Ann Marie responded with a careful “within reason.” She describes her style as traditional eclectic, enjoying the tension and visual excitement created by juxtaposing antiques against more contemporary design pieces.
The extensive renovations included a new roof, gutter system, siding, and custom windows. The design and color choices for the interior embodied a “comfortable and soothing” approach to color, fabrics, and furnishings. Ann Marie enjoyed the various collaborations and creative partnerships forged throughout the extensive renovations of her family's home. The results speak softly, and at times, playfully for themselves.
The family, coming from an urban setting, found the more country style in Holmdel refreshing, but also found it a little challenging at first. It took Ann Marie some time to get used to the groundhogs, frogs, and quiet, but they have all now settled in and enjoy the natural setting of their renovated home.
