The Central Jersey Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) hit another home run at this year’s 10th Annual Gala “A Night In Oz” themed after the Wizard of Oz and in honor of the Spano Family Charitable Foundation. Continuing their history making trek toward finding the cure for diabetes and its complications, the chapter raised over $625,000 at this year’s Gala, which will go toward diabetes research and education.  Executive Director of the Central Jersey Chapter, Lori McLane commented, “The Night in Oz, “Hold Onto Your Heart, Hold on to Your Hope,” Gala theme says it all.  Just like The Wizard and Dorothy, people working together using their wisdom, hearts and courage is how we raised an extraordinary amount of money to help fund diabetes research.  As they saying goes; “There is no place like home!” For me, my heart feels at home with all of those involved with the Central Jersey Chapter of the JDRF!  I am truly grateful for all of their continued support.”
This year’s tented event was held at Stillwell Stables, in Colts Neck, NJ, hosted by Carol Stillwell. The May 8th event featured celebrity guests including boxing Hall of Fame legend, Gerry Cooney and Bon Jovi Band Member, David Bryan. The themed event featured a yellow brick road and the Emerald City dinning room. The windy conditions wreaked havoc throughout Colts Neck, turning off power throughout the area, but the wind only enhanced the Wizard of Oz theme.

The Central Jersey Chapter extends its sincere thanks to Gala Committee Chairwomen Patti Gatta and Kenna Brockriede, and the entire Gala committee for their efforts in planning and preparing for this special occasion. They also thank this year’s honorees, the Spano Family Charitable Foundation and Gala Host, Carol Stillwell of Stillwell-Hansen, Inc. for allowing them to use Stillwell Stables in Colts Neck to hold the Gala once again.

All Gala proceeds will go toward finding a cure for diabetes, which affects 24 million men, women, and children nationwide and kills one person every 3 minutes.  For these individuals, the only hope is research.  At least 80 cents of every dollar given to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation goes directly to research and education related to research.  Since our inception in 1970, we have given more than $1.4 billion to diabetes research worldwide.
