Question:

I am remodeling my kitchen and want to get the best long term value and organized storage space? How can this be accomplished?

Answer:

Quality is the number one key to long term value. When searching for cabinetry, look for full plywood construction, dovetail or stainless steel draw boxes, and ¾ inch plywood shelving for durability. Also look for furniture grade finishes that will enhance and protect your cabinetry creating heirloom quality in your home.

Also consider simple products with a more classic look. This will endure style trends and will last for generations.  An additional benefit to this look is that simpler lines and less ornamentation can bring down the cost of your new cabinetry.

Your choice of countertop is also important when considering long term value.  A strong, durable countertop using materials such as Granite and Marble will not only give your kitchen a beautiful classy look, it will be add value to your kitchen and last for many years. Countertops from these materials come in a huge array of colors and styles, giving homeowners many choices that will match any interior.

Storage accessories are more relevant now and increase the useful area of the cabinets and create a more efficient, functional work space. Full extension draws, pull out trash bins and spice racks, deep draws for pots and pans, special areas for storing plastic containers, and vertical pantries for non perishable food storage are all items you should consider when renovating, to give you maximum storage.

If you have the space and the budget, add an island to your kitchen design. It not only creates more storage space, but also adds a prep/eating area. It can also become the focal point in your kitchen, so be creative. If you have dark cabinets, you might want to have a painted finish on you island or a different countertop then the outside cabinetry. Adding wine racks, a beverage refrigerator, and draw dishwashers can make your island a convenient area within your kitchen for children and guests alike.

If you follow these simple rules, you are sure to create an enduring kitchen with endless beauty.
