That's Entertainment - The Pathakars'

The Pathakars' Home Maintains Warmth and Charm... Along With Fun!

Manoj Patharkar was born in India, but came to America as a young boy. Maria was a physical therapist, and met Manoj while he was working as a rehabilitation resident at JFK Hospital in Edison. The couple married and began their life together living in a three bedroom townhouse in Lawrence Harbor. Manoj began focusing his practice on sports medicine and pain management, and ultimately decided to open his own practice in Edison. Their family expanded to include Neal and Lia (now 8 and 5, respectively), and a search for a bigger home soon began. The family enjoyed  many outings during the spring and fall months – apple picking or peach picking – in the Colts Neck area, so this seemed like a perfect place to start their search. They found their special home after going to a realtor’s open house. The Patharkars loved the country setting and magnificent  adjoining farm views that the home offered. Although the family did not know anyone in Colts Neck at the time, they were soon met by warm and friendly neighbors, and found the town’s friendliness a pleasant and welcome surprise.

The Patharkars’ magnificent home is situated on 3.1 acres and, although built in the late ’90’s, they are the third owners. Manoj and Maria have put their own stamp on the house, and have just completed a masterful basement renovation that created a multifunctional living and play area that  would please even the most demanding entertainment and sports fan. The Patharkars started making their new home reflect their personal tastes by adding a pool, cabana, and patio to the outside space, taking full advantage of the beautiful views surrounding them. The inside was certainly  not neglected, as they added mouldings, chandeliers, a new mantel and mirror design, and created a library room for Manoj to do his paperwork or just settle down with a good book. The basement has received a total rebuild, including a full home theater, classic bar space, an area for a full-sized  pool table, a children’s craft room, and a workout area with a full complement of equipment on which to break a sweat. The proportions of the Patharkars’ home are quite grand, but this home exudes the warm and welcoming character of the family that lives there.

Andy Caraballo, of ACS Audio Visual Concepts Solutions, designed and installed this magnificent home theater design in the Patharkars’ newly renovated basement. The multiple oversized, extra-cushioned reclining chairs are a perfect complement to the classically designed surrounding wall  treatment. The room recalls classic 1930’s Hollywood vintage movie houses, with soft fabrics on the walls, acanthus leaf crownmouldings, and boxmouldings throughout. The crystal wall sconces add sparkle and just the right amount of glitz to this inviting entertainment center.

The open space was designed to fit the hi-tech digital state-of-the-art “tee off” area. Manoj took up golf only 2 years ago, but finds this digitally driven practice tee to be a real stress reliever and believes it has helped his golf game immensely. He has joined Eagle Oaks Golf Club in  Farmingdale, and enjoys the game to the fullest whenever he can find the time to shoot a round of golf. ACSAudio Visual Concepts Solutions also installed the custom bar, behind which is a flat-screen television, behind the reflecting mirror. The complete set of workout equipment plus the  full-sized pool table round out this great recreation area that used to be “just a basement.”

Maria handled much of the decorating after the family moved in. Her use of royal colors, such as luminous golds and rich reds, add a regal quality to the décor, but also creates a welcoming composition in which to entertain guests and family.

The master bedroom is clearly a masterful getaway. The sitting room and master bath create a multi-use area that is comfortable and versatile. The tray ceiling and luxurious drapery soften this grand getaway space that provides a restful space for Manoj and Maria to unwind in privacy. The secluded  sitting area also creates a warm conversation nook to reconnect after a hectic day.

The kitchen has not been altered much since moving in, but the addition of pendant lights and a warm rich red wall color, as well as curtains and a television cabinet, create a great space for baking cookies and homemade pizzas with the kids. The Patharkars love to plant, and tend to an extensive  garden each spring, and the entire Patharkar clan grabs a shovel when planting time arrives. Their garden includes fresh vegetables and spices that are used in cooking healthy and fresh meals for friends and family.
