Question:

"What type of stone product should I use on my home, a natural or an artificial thin veneer stone"?

Answer:

A "thin veneer stone" is the exterior stone cladding most often used in modern construction projects.

Interior uses are on the rise and are most often implemented on the fireplace.

The price point differential of natural thin veneer stone verses artificial thin veneer stone is approximately $2.00 to $8.00 per sq/ft, with natural stone at $8.00 to $14.00 per sq/ft verses artificial at $6.00 to $9.00 per sq/ft. I like to say if you were a developer who was cladding a multiple home development you would use the artificial material because of the cost savings.

Home owners expand the use and engage very custom applications of thin veneer stone developing a personal color palate unique to their residence.  Many are inspired by the range of natural, earth derived colors and textures.

Dow Corning, Cultured Stone brand is the artificial product that creates the most authentic aesthetic on the market today. They manufacture numerous stone patterns and each available in a variety of colors.

Color choice is very important when coordinating other building products to be used in the same environment.

Unfortunately, some of the artificial stone manufacturers do not have the quality control process perfected - these are the new "bargain" brands on the market today (these are the products we choose not to represent).

We proudly represent natural stone quarries in Pennsylvania, New York, New England and Wisconsin.

Natural stone product has unique and diverse characteristics which are derived by location and process.  This quarried resource offers abundant options for dimensional patterns as well as free form, mosaic patterns.

It comes down to creative goals and individual choice that guide the selection.  Often a desired aesthetic will guide the decision.  One may choose the range and diversity of the natural quarried product or opt for the regularity of the manufactured, colorized product.  Ultimately, the choice is yours!
