The Sirico Estate
08/27/2008 - By by Michael Berman
A place of warmth, welcome, and entertainment
Thomas and Linda Sirico met 25 years ago in their native Brooklyn, New York. Thomas owned a number of boutiques and Linda, always the fashion-conscious shopper, frequented one of his trendy stores. Each time she came into the store Thomas immediately noticed Linda’s inspired fashion sense and her pretty blue eyes. He started asking her if she wanted to work in the store. She agreed to one day a week, and that decision turned into a 25-year adventure that now includes their 10-year-old son, little Thomas, and their 6,000-square-foot home on 1 ½ acres in picturesque Holmdel.
The Sirico family made a stop in Staten Island on their way to Holmdel. They had decided to close their boutiques and move over the bridge to raise a family; Thomas then went into the real estate mortgage business. When young Thomas was born, the family started to think about a move to New Jersey as a better place to raise their son.
In 2001, the search began in Marlboro, Colts Neck, and Holmdel; but the rolling hills and “friendly, small-town feel” of Holmdel won the Siricos’ hearts. After selling their Staten Island home in one day, they found their special home in the Garden State. The recently built (1997) home was just what the Siricos were looking for. The steel-beamed construction, interior flow, and location were just perfect. Linda “loved the bones of the house” and liked the fact that the previous owners had kept the interior colors neutral, giving her free reign to start decorating. She said it took 3 years to get her family’s home to where she wanted it, but she is quite pleased with it now. Thomas trusts her design sense, and they share many of the same style preferences.
Their home has been a joy and is perfect for entertaining. Linda smiles when she reflects on the family’s huge football parties, and especially last year’s Super Bowl featuring the Giants impressive win. She can’t help but smile when she says, “That party was off the hook!”
The Sirico home has a grand façade of stucco, and a large number of windows that let natural light into the interior spaces of this gracious home. The exterior landscaping is formal, and beautifully frames the architectural elements of the home.
The great room is stunningly dramatic. Linda started with new furnishings and designed the drapery to complement the massive wall of windows in this spacious room. She is never shy when it comes to color, and introduced a bold red into the room using drapery fabric and a well-matched paint treatment. The floral arrangements were also designed by Linda, and are a nice organic addition to the overall design concept of the room.
The elegant dining room features lush upholstered seating, a large breakfront, and crystal a chandelier, all adding to the elegant design statement. The lush drapery frames out the window with a classical silhouette. Linda comments on the beauty of the dining room with a resounding, “We take our meals seriously.”
The basement has undergone complete remodeling, creating what Linda calls a gentlemen’s club ambiance. The renovation included a variety of play areas – a full home theatre, billiard table, a fully outfitted bar area, wine room, and a special game room where young Thomas can challenge his parents to a video game or two.
Linda describes herself as an “Italian girl who likes to cook,” and the kitchen in the Sirico home is the perfect place to get together and enjoy one of Linda’s home-cooked meals. The tile floors with accents, granite-top counters, and American cherry raised-panel cabinetry set the stage for entertaining and holiday gatherings.
The traditional four-poster bed sets a classic tone for the spacious master bedroom. The fireplace and mantel create a cozy environment conducive to kicking off your shoes and relaxing. The master bath is bathed in natural light and has a large sunken tub for washing away the day’s pressures.
Inspired by Point Pleasant’s Jenkinson’s, young Thomas can hear waves splashing in his own bedroom. The mural walls in his room incorporate a sand dune scene, and an underwater motif decorates the bath area, allowing Thomas to truly enjoy surfside living year ’round.
