Weigh In Marlboro: Dream a Little Dream
03/01/2007 - By Lauren Covino

When Marlboro locals responded to the question of how they would spend their lottery winnings, they were not at a loss for ideas.

I can't remember the last time I ever won a dime in a scratch-off!  For many, the idea of winning is a thrill that keeps them returning to the store to purchase tickets each week.  According to a report by CNN, the United States produced over $50 billion in lottery ticket sales in 2005.  That's an astounding number considering how many people walk away winners.  So what keeps buyers in the game?  These people have one thing in common... a cream.  Everyone's got one, right?  Daydreams about a private island with a 50-foot yacht, a Ferrari in the driveway, a closet filled with designer shoes.  Okay, yuou get it!

The New Jersey State Lottery slogan encourages people to "give your dreams a chance."  LIM did just that (theoretically) and asked people around town what their lottery dreams are.  As you can see, the possibilities are endless.

"I would donate the money to the Bayshore Hospital Foundation and also towards drug and alcohol rehabilitation." -Linda Corbo.  "Funny you should ask!  There is an incredible mink coat I saw at Saks the other day and would otherwise never be able to afford it.  As far as the rest of the money, the sky's the limit." -Betty Windsor.  "Being involved in education all my life, I would love to establish a foundation for students with special needs, giving them the chance to learn a new skill or trade." -Neal Perlman.  "The money should go towards trying to change someone's life." -Robert Corbo.  "I'm sure with all the taxes I'll have to pay on my win, there will be barely enough left to go out on the town!" -Susan Elliot.  "I would love to buy a nice horse farm and move my in-laws in next door.  I'd also have to buy Yankees' season tickets for my father-in-law and me." -Mike Cerniglia.  "A mansion, a boat, all of the latest gadgets, new clothes, and tons of jewelry." -Cameron Fontaine.  "It would be great to buy the laundromat next door to Antonio's and blow out the left wall so we can expand the restaurant." -Lew Kaufman.  "I would love my own plane." -Allie Parsons.  "I have always wanted to participate in the major fashion shows in NYC, Milan, and Paris.  I would definitely request front row seating and I would buy everything from Carolina Herrera's line." -Christie Springer.  "If I won that much money, I would take a year sabbatical with my husband and travel the entire world." -Christella Villasenior.  "If  I won the lottery, I would definitely pay off my daughter's college education." -Bobby Katz.  "I agree with my husband and would first pay off our daughter's schooling, then travel to Europe!" -Susan Katz.  "I'm an investments kind of guy.  My plan would be to buy a company or piece of real estate and watch my money continue to grow." -John Barber.  "I think I would finally open up a facility for abandoned and abused animals:  a facility like they have out in San Francisco, state-of-the-art, nothing spared." -Connor Manning.    "Three things: buy rental property, travel the world, and purchase a few more toy cars for my husband." -Kathleen Vellone.  "I am a rather simple person.  Give me a beautiful dinner, a Broadway show, and maybe a new expensive hairdo." -Melissa Jones.  "My sister and her baby really deserve a new home, so that's where my money would go." -Jaime Robertson.  "My dream, in all honesty, is to pay off my children's college educations so they do not have to start their lives in debt." -Jim Petillo.  "Definitely a new car!  My wheels have another few months to go and that money would really come in handy." -Dianna Polak.  "I can't pick just one and would buy a Louis Vuitton bag, donate to the ASPCA, and put the rest in savings." -Keryn Cerniglia.  "I would travel to Europe since it is a place I have always wanted to visit and it's not cheap!" -Tom Hardy.  "Take care of the people in the U.S. that need it most, such as those in New Orleans." -Kevin Comoford.  "My fiance'e and I would really appreciate that money to pay for a wedding, honeymoon, and down payment on a new home." -Janet Grossman.   "It would be wonderful to pay the mortgage on our temple." -Maxine Perlman.  "I would donate a large chunk of my winnings to the American Cancer Society and put the rest  into savings." -Nicholas Colletti.  "A dream of mine would be to buy oceanfront property in Key West, Florida." -Rich Drozd.  "Call me materialistic, but I would really love a gorgeous piece of jewelry from Tiffany's." -Mackenzie Silver.  "I would throw the biggest and best party that anyone has ever seen.  Even P Diddy would be jealous." -David Messiner.  "I would donate the money to the American Cancer Society." -Kaitlyn Kirse.  "My husband has always wanted a 65-foot Hatteras, so that would be my first purchase." -Marie Perry.
