Weigh In - What is your favorite TV show?
05/03/2011 - By Paul Williams
What is your favorite TV show?
The television sure has come a long way. When TV was first introduced into this country in 1928, there were three stations that broadcasted their shows sporadically throughout the year. It was considered to be groundbreaking when our first TV station, W2XB, broadcasted programs four times a week. Fast forward to 2011, and there are now hundreds of channels that broadcast 24 hours a day. (Yet, isn’t it amazing how many times we say, “There is nothing on TV today?” Imagine how we would have felt in 1928!)
On a few recent wonderful, cloudless days in Holmdel Park, some NJ residents were hiking, fishing, playing baseball, or just soaking in the sunshine…to pass the time until their favorite show came on the air later that night. A few people said they enjoy catching occasional re-runs of hit shows of the past, and others look forward to settling down each week for that special hour of suspenseful drama or a good laugh. That’s one advantage of having so many channels at our fingertips: we can all find something that we like to watch during the week. There are shows that cater to everyone’s interests, regardless of what they are. The diversity of our own tastes showed in the answers to this question, as only two shows, The Good Wife, and Two and a Half Men, received more than one vote. Almost everyone seemed to enjoy two similar genres though: crime investigations, or comedy. Again, there was no shortage of options with either of those. There are numerous types of investigative shows, from ones that deal with forensics, to simple court cases. Everyone has a different taste in humor as well; some have a laugh the racy, suggestive situations on Two and a Half Men, while others prefer the lighter, wittier remarks on The Big Bang Theory.
Sometimes it took a little while for everyone to come up with an answer, both because they it was difficult to decide which one of the many programs they watch was their favorite, or because they hardly watch television at all. No matter how much or little we watch TV, we all have at least one program that we look forward to (even if we don’t like the admit it). Is yours on here?
