Weigh In - What is your favorite TV show?

What is your favorite TV show?

The television sure has come a long way.  When TV was first introduced into this country in 1928, there were three stations that broadcasted their shows sporadically throughout the year.  It was considered to be groundbreaking when our first TV station, W2XB, broadcasted programs four times a week.  Fast forward to 2011, and there are now hundreds of channels that broadcast 24 hours a day.  (Yet, isn’t it amazing how many times we say, “There is nothing on TV today?”  Imagine how we would have felt in 1928!)

On a few recent wonderful, cloudless days in Holmdel Park, some NJ residents were hiking, fishing, playing baseball, or just soaking in the sunshine…to pass the time until their favorite show came on the air later that night.  A few people said they enjoy catching occasional re-runs of hit shows of the past, and others look forward to settling down each week for that special hour of suspenseful drama or a good laugh.  That’s one advantage of having so many channels at our fingertips: we can all find something that we like to watch during the week.  There are shows that cater to everyone’s interests, regardless of what they are.  The diversity of our own tastes showed in the answers to this question, as only two shows, The Good Wife, and Two and a Half Men, received more than one vote.   Almost everyone seemed to enjoy two similar genres though: crime investigations, or comedy.  Again, there was no shortage of options with either of those.  There are numerous types of investigative shows, from ones that deal with forensics, to simple court cases.  Everyone has a different taste in humor as well; some have a laugh the racy, suggestive situations on Two and a Half Men, while others prefer the lighter, wittier remarks on The Big Bang Theory.

Sometimes it took a little while for everyone to come up with an answer, both because they it was difficult to decide which one of the many programs they watch was their favorite, or because they hardly watch television at all.  No matter how much or little we watch TV, we all have at least one program that we look forward to (even if we don’t like the admit it).  Is yours on here?

The Big Bang Theory.  It’s very entertaining and Leonard reminds me of my husband.

Angela Riley, Howell

Raising Hope.  It’s the funniest show on television.  It has quality writing and off-beat humor

Jarod Riley, Howell

American Idol.  I like to hear what Steven Tyler has to say now that Simon is gone.

Vinnie Sexton, Hazlet

The Good Wife.  It’s a good law show with a great storyline of the character’s personal lives too.

Barbara and Bob Giannone, Marlboro

Desperate Housewives. Barbara: It’s very interesting and fun-filled.  Joan: I always make sure I get home at 9 p.m. on Sunday’s to see it.

(Left) Barbara DeLuca, Manalapan.

(Right) Joan Corranti, Old Bridge

The Good Wife.  I like the acting, and court shows are always entertaining.

Jodi Rose, Middletown
Any History Channel documentary.  Not just biographies, but shows about how things are made too.

Donald Meseroll, Highland Park

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is easily the funniest show on television. I like the way Charlie Day’s character loses his temper.

Rob Bianchi, Eatontown

The Vampire Diaries.  It’s got a great back story, and good acting.

Justine Davis, Brick

CSI Miami. We love how they investigate so many things. It’s a different show that everything else out there.

Pat and Bill Neil, Holmdel

Two and a Half Men. The combination of humor, good looking women, and playful scenarios is great.

Eric A.  Marlboro

Dancing with the Stars.  I like it better than American Idol.

Phyllis T.  East Brunswick

Celebrity Apprentice. I like Donald Trump, and how intense the show is. It’s better than the other apprentice shows.

Mike Reidy, Keyport.

House Hunters. One can always dream about owning a house on that show, right?  It’s interesting to watch people have to make tough decisions too.

Nancy Torres, Middletown

Anything on Comedy Central. It doesn’t matter if they are re-runs, or new shows.  I just like to laugh.

Florencio Torres, Eatontown

Two and a Half Men. The comedy parts in that show are just so great.

John Appaneal, Middletown

Everybody Loves Raymond re-runs.  Frank’s sarcasm and delivery is so funny.  He helped make the show what it was.

Jennifer Bordfeld, Farmingdale

Bethany Ever After. It’s the funniest show on Bravo.

Debbie Bordfeld, Farmingdale.

Jeopardy. It keeps the brain active I love to play along with the contestants.

Mike L.  Middletown

The Killing. Lowell: I think the acting is superb. And my family is from Seattle, and they do a great job with the setting in the show. Marylyn: They make it very realistic because they show both sides of every investigation.

— Lowell Burgh, Toms River.

Marylyn Barlaz, Freehold
